Newtown Rangers AFC was formed in 1957 in Mrs Farrell’s house at Newtown Park, Tallaght. The club is one of the oldest soccer clubs in Tallaght. The club played at several different grounds throughout the years including St Marys School Greenhills Road and behind Ahearn’s Pub on the Old Bawn Road. In 1988 the club took a bold step and decided to purchase 8 acres at Ballymana Lane, Kiltipper, Tallaght. The ground was named Farrell Park. The club originally played in the Athletic Union League, winning several league and cup titles including the Leinster Junior Cup in 1966 before moving to The Leinster Senior League in the mid-90s. Since then the club has won the Moore Cup twice, The Gilligan Cup, The Tom Cullen Cup, The Tom Carroll Cup as well as several league titles and promotions both Saturday and Sunday. The club also entered the Dublin and District Schoolboys League in 1980 and fielded several successful teams. The cub currently fields two teams in The Leinster Senior League, Senior 1A Sunday and Major 1 Saturday as well as three teams, U13s, U15s and U16s in the South Dublin Football League. In October 2013 the club opened its state of the art Astro Training pitch. A unique 50 metre x 40m metre flood lit facility which is available for booking 12 months of the year. |
